Milos villages, compared by character and access

Stay in Adamas if you want the ferry, the bus terminal and shops within a short walk, and you do not mind a working harbour. Stay in Plaka (or neighbouring Trypiti) if you want lanes, views and sunset without driving after dinner. Stay in Pollonia if you like a sandy seafront village and a possible day on Kimolos. The hamlets — Klima, Mandrakia, Firopotamos — are better as visits than as first-night bases unless you have already booked a specific house and understand the access.

None of these choices locks you to one coast. Milos is small enough that a private transfer, a rental or, in summer, the bus can move you between them. What does change is the evening: after a long beach day you will be glad the taverna is a walk, not a dark drive on an unlit road.

Plaka and Trypiti reward you for leaving the car at the edge. The lanes are narrow, parking in high season is a hunt, and the point of being there is to walk. Klima’s waterfront is a photographer’s stop more than a promenade; vehicles should drop off and collect rather than idle. Adamas and Pollonia are easier with luggage: both have a waterfront road and a range of hotels that a driver can reach.

A north-coast half day often strings Sarakiniko, Mandrakia and Firopotamos, then climbs to Plaka. A late-afternoon loop can add the Ancient Theatre area above Trypiti and finish in Klima as the light goes gold. That outline is also the spine of the highlights tour and the private island tour. You can do a shorter version yourself with a return transfer: drop at Plaka, walk, collect at an agreed point after dinner.
