Walking on Milos without inventing trails

Milos is walkable in pieces: Plaka’s lanes, the last slope to a beach, a clifftop path above a cove. It is not, on the evidence this guide will stand behind, a fully waymarked long-distance network you can follow with a colour code and a hut. Heat, wind, crumbling volcanic edges and old mining ground are real. Carry water. Do not scramble where a municipal page says a descent is closed.

Walks this guide will describe

Village interiors: Plaka, Trypiti. The staircase at Firopotamos. The gravel slope at Firiplaka. The clifftop at Papafragas — as a viewpoint walk, not as a closed descent. Sarakiniko’s rock is a walk in itself and is slippery when wet. None of these replace boots-and-map mountain hiking elsewhere in Greece.

What not to improvise

Closed paths stay closed. Old mine workings are not playgrounds. Midday in July on white rock is a medical plan, not a romantic one. Tell someone where you are going if you leave the village grid. A transfer can deliver you to a trailhead that is really a car park; it cannot rescue a bad scramble.
