Look at the sea first
North coast, north wind. On a meltemi day Plathiena can be the beach you photograph from the car and leave. The south — Firiplaka, Provatas, Paleochori — is then the swimming plan. On a still evening it is one of the prettiest sand coves near the capital. Combine it with a Plaka dinner rather than treating it as a full facilities day.
Getting there
A private driver will use the dirt road as a matter of course. Tell a rental desk before you copy the pin into a satnav. The published port fare that includes Plathiena is grouped with Firopotamos; confirm that grouping still matches your exact drop when you enquire.
