A long shore, not a pocket cove
Paleochori stretches. The middle is where umbrellas and tavernas gather in season; the ends are quieter and less equipped. Coloured cliffs and pebbles are the postcard. A peer-reviewed study has described shallow-sea hydrothermal venting in Paleochori Bay — which is why the water can feel patchily warm. It is a geological curiosity, not a spa with opening hours. Do not scald yourself hunting for a “hot spot”, and do not assume every metre of bay is a thermal pool.
Getting there
The road is paved to the coast. The island bus lists Paleochori in summer — check Milos Buses for a return that matches lunch. A private transfer from Adamas port is a published €40 fare for up to four; from the airport it is on request. The beaches tour includes it as a sit-down stop rather than a descent.
Agia Kyriaki and the rest of the south
Agia Kyriaki sits west, usually quieter. Firiplaka and Provatas continue the south-coast set. Wind still picks the day: a southerly can make this whole coast less pleasant than the map promised.
