Tsigrado: a tiny cove after a serious descent

Tsigrado is the cove people mean when they talk about ropes on Milos. A dirt approach ends at a parking area above the cliffs; the beach is a white-sand slot between rock walls, reached by a steep sandy path, wooden ladders and a rope. It is optional. It is not a family default. A transfer can only reach the car park. If anyone in the party cannot climb back up, stay at Firiplaka next door.

The descent

Guides agree on the method even when they disagree on adjectives: you go down through a cleft with wooden ladders and a rope, after a steep sandy path from the parking area. Going down is optional; coming up is mandatory. Midday heat on south-facing rock is part of the effort. There is no facility to stash a picnic at the top and no one employed to help you with a child on your shoulders.

Split the group

Because Firiplaka is next door, a party can be honest: climbers descend, everyone else stays on a proper beach with seasonal sunbeds. The beaches tour treats Tsigrado as optional for that reason. A drop-off at the shared car park with a later collection is the transfer product — published from Adamas port with Firiplaka, on request from the airport.

The water

The cove is small. It fills up. The water is the point, not a long shoreline stroll. South-coast shelter in a meltemi is the usual advice, with the usual caveat that a southerly puts swell on this beach. Nobody supervises the swim. If the ladder looks worse than the photos, it is allowed to walk back to Firiplaka.

Common questions

Can a transfer drop us on Tsigrado sand?
No. The car park above is the end of the road.
Is it suitable for children?
Only if every child can climb ladders and ropes in heat, and an adult is free to help. For most families, Firiplaka or Provatas is the day.
